allergen info?
All Mary Kate Cakes products contain milk, wheat, and eggs.
Unless you choose a filling that contains nuts, my products are otherwise nut-free. However, my kitchen is not a nut-free environment, so I cannot guarantee that any items have not come into contact with nut allergens. Please use your discretion.
CUSTOMIZATION!
Can I request customizations beyond what’s listed on the order form?
Absolutely! There’s a section at the bottom of the order form where you can describe your unique vision in detail. You can also upload inspiration photos to help bring your idea to life. Don’t hesitate to ask for exactly what you want!
How much do customizations cost?
Customization costs vary based on materials, time, labor, and expertise. Prices can range from small additional costs to more significant charges, depending on the complexity of your request. To get an estimate, fill out the order form, and I’ll provide an invoice. You can then decide whether to move forward.
How far in advance do I need to place my order?
Orders must be placed at least one week before your desired date.
If my schedule allows, I may be able to accommodate last-minute orders within this window. However, orders placed within one week of the due date will incur a 20% rush fee.
Is your pricing flexible?
No, my pricing is firm. It reflects the quality of ingredients, the time and effort involved, and my expertise in creating your custom cakes.
FORMS OF PAYMENT?
I currently only take venmo.

Where do I pick up my cake?
I do not have a storefront. My pick-up location is in Virginia Highlands, and the exact address will be provided once your order is confirmed.
Do you offer delivery?
Yes! I offer delivery through Uber.
How does Rideshare delivery work?
We will coordinate directly to confirm the details of your delivery. Once we’ve spoken, I will provide my address so you can arrange a rideshare pickup on your preferred pickup date.
Your order should arrive within 30 minutes of the scheduled pickup time. Please note that Rideshare drivers do not bring orders to your door—someone must be available to retrieve the order directly from the vehicle upon arrival.
What if I miss my delivery?
Since rideshare deliveries are one-way trips, the driver will not wait or return the order to me. If no one is available to retrieve the order upon arrival, it will be considered forfeited, and no refund or replacement will be provided.
What if my order is damaged during delivery?
Once your order leaves my possession, I am not responsible for any damages that may occur during delivery. By choosing rideshare delivery, you accept this risk.
How can I safely transport and carry my cake?
When handling your cake, always lift the box by placing at least one hand underneath, never by the sides. During transport, ensure the cake stays level and cool. The passenger-side floorboard with the air conditioning on is ideal to prevent the cake from warming. Drive carefully to avoid any damage!
How do I cancel my cake order?
If you need to cancel your order, please reach out to yum@marykatecakes.com.
Full refund for custom orders cancelled up to 7 calendar days before the scheduled pick-up or delivery date.
50% refund for orders cancelled within 7 calendar days of the scheduled pick-up or delivery date.
serving & storing!
Serving!
How should I serve my cake?
For the best flavor and texture, I recommend serving your cake at room temperature. Take it out of the fridge a couple of hours before serving to allow it to reach the ideal temperature.
How many people will my cake serve?
The number of servings will vary depending on the size of your cake and how you cut the slices. The serving amounts provided are based on slices that are 1.5-2” thick.
When should I remove my cake from the box?
It’s best to remove your cake from its box right after taking it out of the fridge. The buttercream will still be firm and cold, reducing the risk of accidentally scraping or damaging the cake when removing the box.
When should I remove my cake from the box?
Serving your cake outside in hot weather is possible, but please be cautious. Cakes are made with buttercream, and butter can soften or even melt in high temperatures.
If the temperature is around 75°F or below, it’s generally safe, but still keep the cake out of direct sunlight.
If the weather is between 75-95°F, be extra careful. Try to keep the cake in the shade and monitor it closely, but I recommend keeping it indoors until you're ready to serve.
Storing!
Storing Your Cake Before Serving!
You can order your cake in advance and store it in the fridge for up to 5 days or freeze it for up to 2 weeks before serving.
Refrigerating Your Cake!
Keep your cake in its original box when storing it in the fridge. If you plan to refrigerate it for more than a couple of days, I recommend wrapping the box in plastic wrap for added freshness. This will help keep the cake as fresh as possible. It will stay good for about 5 days in the fridge.
IMPORTANT: The night before you plan to serve your cake, transfer it from the freezer to the fridge (still in the box) to allow it to thaw gradually overnight. Avoid moving it directly from the freezer to room temperature, as this can cause condensation and potentially damage the cake.
On the day of serving, remove the cake from the fridge 2 hours before serving to allow it to come to room temperature.
storing Your Cake!
To store leftover cake, place it back in the delivery box or transfer slices into an airtight container (this is the recommended method). Leftover cake can be kept in the fridge for up to 5 days or frozen for up to 6 months.
cake box dimensions!
Make sure you have enough space in your fridge or freezer to store your cake. Here are the dimensions of my cake boxes:
6” cakes: 10” x 10” x 10”
8” cakes: 12” x 12” x 10”
Artist disclaimer!
When you place an order with Mary Kate Cakes, you’re giving me the creative freedom to bring your vision to life. I truly appreciate your trust and respect for my artistic process, and I’m excited to create something special for you.
A note on inspiration photos:
I welcome inspiration photos, as they help me understand your vision and provide a great reference. However, please remember that my artistic style and skills may differ from those of the artists behind your inspiration images. Out of respect for their work and my own artistic integrity, I won’t exactly replicate any photo. Instead, I’ll use my expertise to create something inspired by your vision but uniquely my own, ensuring your order reflects my personal touch while staying true to your desires.
A note on replicating past work:
I’m honored that you love my previous creations enough to want a similar design. However, I don’t create exact replicas of past custom orders. While I can capture the vibe and essence of a design, each new creation will be fresh and unique. I’m constantly striving to push my creativity, and I want every order to be a one-of-a-kind masterpiece. Please let me craft something that’s completely original for you!
A note on declining orders:
I put my heart and soul into every order I take. If I feel that I cannot give an order the time and attention it requires—whether due to complexity or tight deadlines—I will politely decline. Additionally, I may decline any order that doesn’t align with my values as an artist or as a person. Thank you for your understanding and for respecting my artistic boundaries!.
